Engadget gets Props for breaking the Software Based Iphone Sim Unlocker Story a little while ago (Plus Information RoundUp)... When the free version will be released information will be here.

Do you hear that? Yes that there... That is the sound of freedom and rejoicing at the overthrown ATT over lords. Alright maybe we are taking it a little too far but...

As we were about to leave for the day - IT is 5pm and all Friday... We glanced at a monitor and saw that pigs were flying.... I mean a Tmobile iPhone Is what we saw... Thaaaaaat's right kiddies it has been done. It sounds like it was a group of local New Yorkers and they will be on Fox 5 News in a few minutes. Correction New Jersey. We will scour the net for you this weekend and bring you your SIM cracking goodness. Are you ready? Wait for it.... Wait for it...

From CNN:

George Hotz, 17, confirmed Friday that he had unlocked an iPhone and was using it on T-Mobile's network, the only major U.S. carrier apart from San Antonio-based AT&T that is compatible with the iPhone's cellular technology.
While the possibility of switching from AT&T to T-Mobile may not be a major development for U.S. consumers, it opens up the iPhone for use on the networks of overseas carriers.
"That's the big thing," said Hotz, in a phone interview from his home in Glen Rock.

Now back to the Engadget Story...

It's high noon, Apple and AT&T -- we really hate to break it to you, but the jig is up. Last night the impossible was made possible: right in front of our very eyes we witnessed a full SIM unlock of our iPhone with a small piece of software. It's all over, guys. The iPhoneSIMfree.com team called us up to prove their claim that they cracked Apple's iPhone SIM lock system, and prove it they did. (No, we don't have a copy of the unlock software, so don't even ask us, ok?) The six-man team has been working non-stop since launch day, and they're officially the first to break Apple's SIM locks on the iPhone with software. It's done. Seriously. They wouldn't tell us when and how they would release it to the public, but you can certainly bet that they'll try to make a buck on their solution (and rightly so). We can hardly believe the iPhone's finally been cracked. No, scratch that -- we just can't believe it took this long. [Straight Outta Engadget Mobile]
